Region Details

Description

As the only rural area on the Dragon Isles, Qubel is often referred to as the breadbasket of the Isles, providing a constant source of food for the stronghold of Qubel Lighthouse and the cities nearby.

The most notable feature of this flat expanse of land is that almost every acre has been given over to the cultivation of crops and orchards. No fence or wall divides the fields and orchards, and the peasantry of individual villages are not assigned particular areas of responsibility. Instead all villages work together under the supervision of the village headmen, allowing large work forces to be easily raised when required.

In order to maximize the land available for farming some of the population lives in villages that are built on wooden stilts along the beaches and out over the coastline. This strange arrangement is of great benefit to the people of the region, as the bounty of the sea is not subject to any tax by the region lord and provides the majority of the sustenance for the peasantry.

The only exception to the unbroken fields is the small rocky outcrop close to the border shared with Nebel. Known as Qubel's Folly it is an area reputed to be inhabited by dark forces and is avoided by the local peasants. The only walls in Qubel are found here, with a 6 foot high stone wall surrounding the Folly. From time to time foul undead venture out from the Folly and it becomes necessary for knights to mount an expedition to cleanse the taint. However, no matter how thorough the knights are in this task or how many wards the priests lay, the dark powers always seem to rebuild their strength with time.

07/09/2017 - There is a hunk of stone and some scaffolding in the village square adjacent to the lord's estate. A closer inspection of the temporary signage on the scaffolding reads: "Under construction. In memory of Flint, Champion Ranger."
