Poryatu

Description

Poryatu stands as the last bulwark of civilization on the south side of the perilous Divide Mountains. Rolling pasturelands criss-crossed with hedgerows run right to the edge of the jagged cliffs lining the eastern sea shore. In summer, when the sea is calm enough, the adventurous explore the many caves and hidden beaches at the base of the mighty cliffs.

The well-maintained ramparts of the town were first raised early in Dwilight's settlement to protect the art and culture of Poryatown from the surrounding wilds, however as the demesne of Suzerain Empress Ciarghuala the fortified town has grown into a bustling cultural and administrative centre in its own right, boasting many fine guild houses. These include the headquarters of the Grand Pantry of Luria and a well-attended campus of the University of Dwilight.

The yeomanry of Poryatu are hard-working and resilient, earning their living from trade in livestock and fishing. The region supports several active militia units and recruitment centers -- the sons of Poryatu know well the need for vigilance and strength.

The whitewashed stone arms of a military harbour protrude from the coast south of Poryatown, their modest pharos providing ships in the bay clear warning of the treacherous sandbanks which clog the area. This is also the training base for the Lurian Marine Corps.
