Region Details

Description

The peaks of Pel Mark form part of the impressive mountain range that dominates central Beluaterra. Its rugged terrain is almost indistinguishable from that of neighbouring regions, making the formal borders of Pel Mark unknown to all but the most stringent cartographers. Naturally this has led to tensions with neighbouring territories and there are several disputed claims to various mines along the borders.

One of Pel Mark's defining features is the presence of a small temple of Estahsism in the region that is literally carved into the mountainside. Fittingly, the temple was consecrated in the name of Eimir, the Estahs God of Mountains and often the peasantry swarm into its cavernous innards during times of crisis, offering prayers to the stone to protect them.

Pel Mark's economy is based almost solely on extracting precious stone and metals from beneath the earth, with most peasants livelihoods dependent on the mines. There's also a flourishing black market as a result of Pel Mark's ideal position as a smuggler's corridor between the nearby cities of Dyomoque and Wudenkin. More often than not the authorities turn a blind eye, so long as an appropriate tithe makes its way into the local tax coffers.
