Mekoter

Description

One of the most densely wooded regions in the North Lowlands, the County of Mekoter finds this both blessing and curse as it struggles to find its place in the world. The wood has been there since time immemorial and Mekoter forms just a small part of the Old Forest that surrounds the equally wooded cities of Lezzel and Ossmat. Formerly a protectorate reserve of Ossmat, Mekoter at one time was owned solely by the royal family. Finally released from their servitude, the subjects of Mekoter often serve on the King's Royal Guard, being some of the most loyal subjects in the realm.

Population growth in Mekoter has always been hampered by the abundance of trees and very few clearings have been made for human settlement, even in spite of the booming trade in what is now politely referred to as 'construction materials' which has helped create further forest clearings. Banditry is becoming increasingly common as a result, though the local Mekotan Frontiersmen make sure to protect the busiest trade routes from trouble.

Due to the near seamless border with Ossmat, travelers are often surprised to stumble across the City of Ossmat as they make their way through Mekoter. Having such intertwined territory has led to vast improvement in the roads between the two regions, serving as yet another boon for the Mekotan economy. Though this has also seen fears of invasion increase in recent years whenever hostile troops are rumoured to be making their way to Ossmat.
