Athol Margos

Description

Athol Margos is the smaller sister of Rines, though it has at times had more cultural importance than her much larger counterpart. While it was the capital of Riombara for a long time, it was also the centre of practice for a grand pre-colonization faith. For a very long time, the people here considered themselves the centre of the universe, a mentality which still persists to some level.

Architecturally, the city has sustained many changes during the years. Despite the daimon devastation it has suffered on several occasions, it remains rather cool and well ventilated for a city of its epoch, the planners having found a way to use the oceanic winds effectively. Despite the many tragedies the people of Athol Margos have endured over the years, they remain a hard-working and self-confident people. After the Fourth Invasion, efforts were made to instill a strong military tradition in the city and the infantry of Athol Margos are now among the best in the realm. As a result, Margosian soldiery was instrumental in Riombara's victories over the daimons during the Fifth Invasion.

Today Athol Margos has declined in political and cultural influence when compared to Rines and Grehk, but it remains a powerful economic engine and contributor to the armies of the Republic.
