Region Details

Description

Rii is a region of great culture and heritage. However, that heritage remains distinct from that of its neighbors. Rii does not share in the bustling metropolitanism of Irombro, nor in the free-wheeling trade-adventurers of Rueffilo. Rii is off-the-beaten-path, as traders generally prefer to move straight through Rueffilo and Ardmore, due to their more advantageous location and larger markets.

Moreover, Rii does not have the vast fertile farmlands of Ardmore or Bolkenia, nor the bustling local markets of Rueffilo. It is a sparsely populated, rocky, hilly region. Most of the stone used in construction in Irombro is mined in Rii.

Due to its isolation, Rii has developed a unique culture. The Riians are fiercely independent, and deeply-suspicious of the outside world: especially anything associated with the great trade route from Eno to Grehk and Rines. The Riians live on small estates and farms throughout their rocky land, or at most in villages centered around a small shrine or a quarry. Along the coast, many of them have small fishing villages.

Rii has bred excellent archers, adept at hiding in the rocks and crags, then leaping out to fight. It is also home to the very finest of scouts, ardent Irombrozian patriots (often forced into hiding by occupying forces), and several wainwrights.

Indeed, Rii is perhaps the most Irombrozian of regions outside of Irombro itself. Its inherent ruggedness, isolation, and independence characterizes all true Irombrozians, and this similarity of temperament, along with heavy investment in the quarries, has played heavily into the Riians' consistent sympathy for Irombrozia. Moreover, the great temple in Irombro attracts many Riians for worship during festivals and holy days.

This region has also been the sight of many battles, which have taken several valued heroes. The bitter fighting in this region has claimed the lives of High Marshall Slomcha and Queen and Marquess Baiko Hyral.
