Description

Grehk is built on a tongue of land next to a natural harbour on the inland sea - from here trading boats can easily reach the isles, Enweilios or Fwuvoghor to the north. The heavier deepwater ships find secure anchorage as well. The landward side of Grehk has always been heavily fortified - as it was to be the centre of bloody wars in every Age. These fortifications have been built and torn down several times by now - as there are few cities who have been laid siege to as often and by as many realms as this fortress city: Eno Chia, Luz de Bia, Enweil, Voghor and several undead armies during the first age when owned and defended by Riombara; Again the undead during the end of the Second Age; and Riombara, Fronen, Thalmarkin, Fwuvoghor when owned by Luz de Bia during the Third Age. By now the foundations have been dug deep and whoever controls the city is always keen to erect its mighty walls once again. Each time the work begins anew, bones and worse is dug up, telling the tale of previous defenders and those they fought against. Some names of the main bastions have survived the Ages: The Snake Tower, The Sun Tower, The Twin Towers guarding the Highway west.

Sights

Vampire Square

A haunted square near the eastern gate - a stark stone block marks the place where the Vampire Lord who had led his minions against the city was beheaded and burnt after having been taken captive.

The d'Serrai Mansion

Home of the d'Serrai family during the first Age - deserted during the time Luz did hold the city it was rebuilt after Riombara had retaken it. Within the fortified compound there are the main residence, living quarters for a sizeable force of warriors, stables, a small smithy and - most notably - the 'House of Heroes'. There the names of those who gain glory by an outstanding feat are carved into stone to be remembered.

The House of Heroes

A small structure within the d'Serrai compound, very similar to a temple. Anyone curious is invited to enter to revere the heroes of Riombara.

The Duchy of Grehk

The Duchy of Grehk is one of the largest in the south, stretching from the mountains of Bym to the towns of Avengmil, up to the borders of Irombro, Athol Margos and Rines. As such, there is a wide range of cuisines, beverages, dialects and goods, brought with the traders and the militiamen that guard the City in peace and war.
