Description

The town of Mio Dupaki was actually once two towns, Mio and Dupaki, facing each other across a now-dry river. The structure of the town retains that element, with the buildings in the west, Old Mio, made of brick, and the buildings in more older and more prosperous Old Dupaki made of stone and even marble.

Mio Dupaki is today a bustling merchant center on the coast, acting as the crossroads for merchant, diplomatic, and military traffic between the cities of the west (Enweilieos, Jidington, Eylmon) and the cities of the east (Grehk, Irombro, Rines). There is plenty of shallow-water shipping as well, but all of the large ships must dock in neighboring Grehk. This prosperous area is well-known for its charm; the warm humid weather encourages a leisurely pace of life, and the locals frequently shut down their shops during the noon heat to take brief naps. The town is wealthy enough to cobble its streets, but not so wealthy as to attract a significant criminal element.

The foothills of Bym start just south of town, and hold the manor houses and estates of the Marquis and the region's Knights, as well as smaller estates belonging to minor nobility and even wealthy merchants from Mio Dupaki and nearby Grehk. Adventurers seeking monsters are advised to investigate the natural limestone caves, which are believed by the locals to extend deep under the Bym mountain range. Rumors have it that on still nights, travelers near cave entrances can faintly hear the sound of drums...

Thanks to its unique position controlling the road between Grehk and Enweilieos, Mio Dupaki is often well-patrolled and well-observed. Adventurers seeking undead are well-advised to visit the ruins of the old town, which is full of cellars, old guard towers, and abandoned religious sites; indeed, they can find the remains of successive walls and settlements going back many years. These sites are used a dueling sites for the elite, training grounds for soldiers, and on one occasion the ruins and extensive ancient cemeteries were the site of the appearance of a Necromancer's army.
