Description

Hirzmet

Hirzmet is a rural county lying due west of Firbalt city. There are three main settlements in Hirzmet, all lying along the river Ess. From north to south they are named Jurby, Weybridge, and Essendale. Except for the high moor of Essenmoor, the climate is mild and supports many farms and fruit orchards. Hirzmet is famous for its apple ciders.

Jurby (Fishing Port)

The fishing port of Jurby is the largest settlement in Hirzmet and is situated at the mouth of the Ess river, emptying into the bay of Jurby. The port has a thriving fishing industry and is also a haunt of smugglers. It has a rich tradition of avoiding the kings taxes and the common folk take no heed of darkened boats or wagons moving in the dead of night.

Weybridge (Market Town)

Weybridge is a market town situated on the West bank and mid way along the Ess river. It boasts a fine stone bridge and a good road leading east to the city of Firbalt. Much rural produce flows through Weybride to feed Firbalt. To the north of Weybridge is Lanhydrock forest which is frequented by bandits, monsters and undead. Some say that there is a dark shrine deep in Lanhydrock and sensible folk avoid venturing far into it.

Essendale (Town on the Moors)

Essenmoor is a high moor which is the source of the Ess river. Essendale lies in a valley just north of the moor. It is the smallest town in Hirzmet and is rather dour with dry stone wall houses. Life is harsh on the moors, based on horses, cattle and sheep. The people are perceived to be rather clannish and taciturn.
