Description

Devestated during the invasion of the daimons, and the subsequent brutal occupation of their kind, any person returning to the city of Mhed may feel that they have not returned to their beloved city, but that they have stepped into an alien world. A bitter and prolonged all out assault by the daimons ensured that most of the buildings would not survive the encounter. What once was a large city split into 5 districts no longer remains; any defining landmarks since marched into dust under the soles of daimonic feet. Yet, it were the people that suffered the most. Nearly to extinction was any resistance hunted down, and those that survived simply waited out agonizing deaths. Starvation, raids, feedings, and even survival among each other nearly claimed those that remained. If there were any true success to the daimon occupation of Mhed, it was that they very nearly completely wiped out any memory the city ever existed.

Somehow, though, humanity always seems to survive (editorial: mightier than the cockroach?). Melhed, a realm often reputed for never forgetting the past, was the first sign civilization still existed on the island. Yet, the daimon infestation had mostly ended of its own accord by then, and there was no glorious campaign to re-take the city and hoist its survivors. No, the return of civilization was much more reminiscent of explorers plotting their way to new fertile, if hostile, land.

The city has since begun to rebuild itself, nestling into what one would expect a city to be. A keep with proper walls to mass a defense, with your regular assortment of craft halls, inns, whore houses, and houses of worship. Settlers from Melhed would be the best description of the cities occupants, and so it is of no confusion that signs of culture are now distinctively Melhedite.
