Affkat

Description

Affkat is a sparsely populated region with a wide expanse of open land, broken only by small settlements, some reindeer and stocky shrubbery. Its location at the very edge of north Beluaterra makes it a place where only the tough and ingenious will survive.

Here, it is rarely quiet. The roar of the ocean creates a dynamic backdrop of sound that shifts with the moods of the weather. Fishermen work hard, lugging their boats and precious cargo round the west side of the region – where the land slopes gently down to the beach. This area is located in the lee of the land, where the southern currents cannot reach. Hunters prowl as quietly as they can, hoping to kill some snow rabbits, foxes or winter boars for food and business.

The region is governed by Baroness Tern of the Silverwinds. Her lord’s residence – The Silvershack – is located slightly below the highest point on the Cliffside, the northernmost area of Affkat. Outwardly, it would not seem like a very big establishment. A short, stout tiled roof jutting out from the landward side of the cliff, a small chimney, simple windows, a narrow door and a banner sporting the cobalt and adamant insignia of House Silverwinds. However, upon entry (if you were to be invited by the Lady, of course), you would find that it is in fact, enormous. The rest of this establishment is underground, three levels deep, with a cellar on the side. Embraced securely by the earth, it suffers little of the battering unleashed by the unpredictable weather of the north. Further down and to the left of this incline are the troop barracks, where the Lady’s own men, the Adamant Steelshine, and those of her close friend and mentor Lady Regent Himeko Ishida are housed (Crowsworn Winterguard).

Affkat is the jewel of the north. The enjoyment of her unchanging crystalline beauty though, is offered only to those who can survive it.
