Falens

Description

The region is home to the western source of the River Toren, flowing down from the Mountains of Toren to the North.  Because of it's position on the river and the mountain pass to Toren Stronghold in the north, Falens is an important stopping place for traders throughout the kingdom.  Goods are shipped down river to Taselak and beyond, and brought to Toren Stronghold through the mountain pass.  The Gap of Falens is the land between the pass and the river where the most trade is and where the largest concentration of the region's citizens live.  The lord's keep, Falengard lay here, its walls guarding the entrance to the pass and the road to Astin.  The town within these walls houses a little over a fourth of the region's population, mostly traders, merchants, and artisans.

Most of the rest of the population live in the fields and meadows in the southern part of the region.  Falens is a large producer of agricultural products, especially wheat for bread.

The mountainous north is mostly populated by honest hunters and goat ranchers, although the rugged terrain is also home to many bandit or anarchist hidey-holes, as the mountains are often out of the reach of the Falens guards.
