Region Details

Description

Desert lays ahead, only one fortified town in the distance. Hot wind, sandstorms and the merciless sun control the landscape, all but the northern woods, permanently losing ground to the unstoppable sands. Giant dunes makes the desert longer than it is. Incredibly hot the day, horribly cold the night, the Lanelle Desert does not spare the weak.

The town, Val Aureum, is located amid an oasis to the east, bordering Sir Temple, and holds almost the entire population of Sermbar, save for lumberjacks to the north still, preying on the Baldera forest that comes down from Csopa. Oriental and Elvish architecture are present : beige walls, blue roofs, strange windows... Val Aureum have surprisingly massive battlements for a so little town, probably to counter bandits and whims from the land of sand.

Caravans pass through the desert from Parm on their way to Trinbar and further, making their stop in Val Aureum taverns; and peregrins often travel through the desert towards Sir Temple, even if they know that the trip is dangerous. Crossing ancient ruins half buried in the sand  in the West of Sermbar is not a surprise anymore. Nobody unless some old wises men in the town know what it is. How many other ruins are under all the sand ?

Due to Desertic weather, Sermbar doesn't produce enough food for the region and populations suffered several times of starvation, making the notion of sharing very important for everyone. The lord is forced to import foods from the others regions of Sirion.
Sermbar's people are hardworking yet not specially merry due to constant dealing with droughts and mercenary companies escorting trade caravans, but pious enough to give shelter to travellers in despair. They know very well how the Lanelle Desert swallow souls of travelers.
