Region Details

Description

An Najaf is predominately grassy rolling hills, mostly unsettled. The highway is a crudely paved path that functions as an artery through these wild lands. Some settlements can be seen, and farming is not uncommon. The people are generally wary of anyone travelling from a distance, and keep to themselves unless pressed into a confrontation.

What stands out about An Najaf's economy is its excellent fishing. The peasants construct intricate tidal pools to trap fish as the tide ebbs and flows year round. The seasonal sturgeon run brings many of An Najaf's residents upstream and away from the coast to harvest the giant fish in the regions streams. They use homemade nets to trap the fish as they swim upstream. However, the people of An Najaf aren't the only ones interested in the fishing. Harbor seals that live along the greater Fontan coastline are incredibly abundant. These animals provide a steady source of hunting for a number of locals, and their fur is valuable, not to mention quite fashionable.

The Lordly estate of An Najaf is located in the Southern Highlands, atop a rocky bluff that looks out over the eastern coast of the continent. The secluded estate has historically included a vineyard, wheat fields, garden, and temple in addition to the actual mansion.

In all, An Najaf is a beautiful, secluded area. Though the people are unfriendly to outsiders, they have been known for their generosity and perseverance through hardship. Below the better-known Fontan city lies this hidden gem, generally overlooked.
