Krimml

Description

Krimml is a City with a rich history. It was once the Capital of Coimbra, but the Realm was eventually destroyed by Oligarch and her allies. Krimml became a part of Oligarch, where the City flourished even though a continuing war lasted around her borders. That would not last forever either however as Fontan took the City from the realm of Oligarch. Under Fontanese Rule the City enjoyed peace and even became the Capital of the Realm. Krimml however, true to her history, temporarily changed hands to Perdan due a rebellious Duke. The City was quickly retaken, but there was a lot of damage, as the City lost her defences and was at the mercy of enemy forces and local bandits. Eventually, the City was rebuilt and once more Krimml became part of Fontan and flourished. Later the city was sacked and burned in the long Sirion war, after this war ended, foreign powers attacked the city on numerous occasions. Krimml truly has a history and one can only wonder for how long things remain as they are be.

Krimml is relatively small. The City lies within a big Forest, which limits her size. Krimml is also surrounded by bigger Cities, most notably Oligarch City. The City that is only a day travel away from Krimml takes away many traders, as Oligarch is suited far better as a Trading Centre then Krimml due it's size. However Krimml still enjoys some commerce from travellers and traders, as they take a rest in Krimml before heading to their final destination.

Krimml has strong defences. The forests surrounding the City have proved to be an excellent place for local bandits to prosper and the City is a very tempting target. Krimml is surrounded by a fortress and a lot of militia to scare away those bandits and take care of them in case they try their luck. The Walls of the City have yet to be overcome.

The Forest wherein Krimml lies provides a bit off food through hunting and also provides some lumber, but not enough to be significant. Instead, since Krimml cannot function well as a Trader Centre, she has focused on producing goods. Through that production Krimml obtains most of her revenue and riches.

While only a small part of Krimml focuses on it, Krimml is well-known for her famous Meat Pastries. Those Meat Pastries are made by experienced bakers. They are a luxury food and the fine taste has made the Meat Pastries popular among Nobility. Peasants don't have the silver to buy it, which has only strengthened it's position as 'Noble Food'. Krimml earns a lot through the export of those Meat Pastries.

However this is not the only thing Krimml produces. While the City herself doesn't produce much lumber, she imports a lot of lumber from Braga and even from Oporto sometimes. This wood is used mainly for furniture, which is divided into two groups. One group focuses on cheap furniture, mainly for peasants. That furniture usually is sold in Krimml and surrounding regions, but does not go much further then that. The other group focuses on high-quality furniture for the Nobility. A big part of that furniture is sold in the Trading Centres of Oligarch to rich Nobles. While Krimml's furniture also has some fame among Nobles, it is overshadowed by the amount of fame the Meat Pastries have managed to get, but perhaps one day that will change.
