Description

Kalmar, once a fledgling coastal town struggling to survive on a sparse island. It has grown into a sprawling city at the base of an active volcano, packed with unique cultures, food, and features that attract visitors from all over the world.

At the renowned culinary college, students learn to prepare Kalmar's famed seafood dishes and cook using volcanically heated ovens. The natural hot springs near the volcano's base are known to heal arthritis and ill humors. A massive aquarium houses unique warm blooded marine life not found anywhere else in the world. The many bazaars frequented by nobles, exotic pirates, and daring entrepreneurs in the Kalmar of old have only grown since its explosive population gain, and the Coliseum can be found near the bazaars where there is always entertainment for poor and wealthy alike. Within one of its expansive plazas there is a one hundred foot fountain of a nine headed hydra, and standing underneath its many arching heads one could think it was raining.

There are two significant buildings of note within Kalmar city. The first being the Great Library of Alexandria. The famous library takes up several city blocks and is jealously guarded by its caretakers. Any text that comes in the city is inspected and if there is no copy found within the library, it is known to never leave unless copied and added to its expansive wealth of knowledge.

The second building of note is the Spire of the Bewitching Siren. An expansive magical palace at the dead center of the city. It is the crowning building of the city, and its peak towering above all. No matter where you find yourself within Kalmar, the spire is within view. When you are within its halls, the shadows on the walls are seemingly always changing shape and every room glows a faint blue regardless of the time of day. They say that while one is within these halls, a subtle song of a beautiful voice is always heard within one's head.

Monument to Noble Fat Bastard in The Great Library of Alexandria

With the war ended between Eponllyn and Alexandria, a tribute to Queen Lorelai's breathtaking companion, "Noble Fat Bastard" was commissioned to bind their peace. The statue is carved from obsidian to match the steed to an almost lifelike appearance, a bulwark of muscles that could carry a country ripple across the beast that would see a leader safely across the battlefield, and eyes filled with a deep intellect that could make one wonder who the true master of the battlefield was.

erected by Tidemaster Sir Cayden Navaar of Admiralty of Alexandria
