Description

Perdan Mines is a rich region immediately west of the great city of Perdam. Scholars classify it as a badlands, although it can be more accurately divided into four distinct areas.

The eastern part, closest to Perdan, is constituted of gentle hills with vineyards, and it boast a fine, if small, production of Port wines. The landscape is dotted with small farms, peaceful if a little sleepy in their contentedness. People in this part of Perdan Mines are generally quite rich, or perhaps it is the rich who make their home here.

In the middle of the peninsula the terrain gets rougher, and shafts can be spotted on the side of the hills. This is the area that gives the name to the region, and it is not particularly pretty. The mining village is the main community here. People living in and around the village are invariably miners or somehow connected to the mining business.

The westernmost part of the Perdan Mines is savage and desolate. Marble columns and pieces of majestic statues speak of a great past, but one which none remembers or wants to remember. Small fishing and sailing communities cling to the clifftops and around the natural harbours of the area. These have had an incredible economic boost since the volcanic islands have emerged from the sea. It is also the place where the Baron has his mansion and it has become quite a fashionable area, with harbours thronging with fishing and merchant fleets as well as the occasional leisure galley of the rich Perdanite.

Finally, on the very north of the peninsula, in the shadow of the fells, the small port of North Haven can be found. Unlike the other harbours of Perdan Mines, this is dedicated solely to the transportation of people and beasts to and from the isles as a ferry service. Because of its strategic importance, a small but proud castle has been built overlooking the port to guard against any potential threat from the islands.
