Westgard had been mostly Atamaran refugees in the beginning, and Lady Alyssa had been one of them. She had taken a council position almost immediately, and rumor had told, never left. She had seen out Archon after Archon from her judges seat; Westgard had adopted her Virtues as she had adopted them.

Whatever had remained of her old life was washed away, then, and she like all Westgardians was forged in the blood of rogues. Every season, hordes of monsters would stream from the crypts and the battlefields  and dash themselves against the walls. 

Alyssa Fontaine was older, true, but still vital, with her long hair up in sensible but ornate plaits. Her field plate armor was made of meticulously crafted pieces; it gleamed with care and burnished by uncountable battles. It was testament to her armorer that the Lady Judge was able to move, sit and fight without the slightest impediment.
